Luggage compartments in the aircraft cabin are usually located above the heads of seated passengers. To ensure optimum headroom between luggage compartments on the one hand, and to facilitate loading on the other hand, aircraft luggage racks can be lowered from shell luggage compartments or trays in certain applications. When lowered, the front of the luggage compartment opens for loading.

A luggage compartment with a lowered housing for an aircraft, wherein the lowered housing is connected to a pulley attached to a support structure of the aircraft by a cable.
