Application of constant force springs in 360 degree sonar imaging devices

source:Qianye Precision time:2023-6-13

Sonar devices that transmit sound waves have previously been used to obtain information about underwater objects, including fish, structures and obstacles as well as the bottom, for locating fish and other underwater objects.

New and improved sonar imaging systems which employ mechanical scanning capable of being attached to a surface vessel, such as a fishing boat. The boat does not need to move to generate high quality photo-like 360 degree sonar images.

The system provides a deployment mechanism mounted on a beam which lowers a sonar pod (i.e., a sonar transducer assembly) into the water. In particular embodiments, the beam-mounted deployment system comprises a housing configured to be mounted to the beam of the vessel, and an extendable shaft arranged at least partially within the housing, and when deployed, the sonar transducer assembly is attached to the beam with one end of the extendable shaft placed underwater. The sonar transducer assembly is closest to the boat in the retracted position and furthest from the boat in the deployed position. In a more specific embodiment, the deployment mechanism mounted on the beam further comprises a constant force spring. The constant force spring is in the deployment mechanism to help speed up retraction.

Constant force springs include a constant load at zero rate, a smooth range of motion, a strong force in a small space, the ability to perform extremely long linear extensions and to store energy indefinitely during extension.

Introduction to Variable Force Springs: What They Are and How They Work

Time:2023-5-7

Variable force springs, also known as variable rate springs, are mechanical springs that change their amount of resistive force throughout their compression or extension. Unlike traditional springs that have a fixed rate of resistance, variable force springs can provide a different amount of force depending on the degree of compression or extension. These unique properties make them ideal for many...
