In some cases, the bridge between the two coils will be small, just to minimize friction between the two coils. But it can also be quite large, creating a wide arch between the two coils. The design of the spring depends entirely on the intended use of the spring.

They are best suited for applications that require spring assist for lifting or rotation as well as counteracting and centering rotational loads.
